Very thorough high-intermediate to advanced level material. You can pick and choose from it or it could get a little dull, for the teacher if not the student.

This is a great book. In my opinion it is the best pronunciation book, I used it as a 2nd level textbook (it is far more advanced than other books, though very clear and easy to deal with). My University pronunciation professor at Columbia suggested it as an additional tool for those who were interested in going deep into the subject. Good both for beginners and advanced students, you can customize your study experience avoiding the advanced parts or some exercises.Cons: The only audio support available are audiotapes (who can still use them???), and they are expensive indeed.

As a foreigner, I do see improvement following this book

I bought this workbook a bit too soon for my granddaughter but we did some of the pages. I thought it had a lot of different ideas and hopefully we can do more in the near future. I will probably look into purchasing a grade one math workbook soon too.

Great workbook. My son enjoys his reading work book.

My son is 6 and he is starting to read on his own. We have been enjoying working with this book, it’s a great way to review or learn more about short and long vowels (with a consonants combinations lesson in between), vocabulary and reading comprehension.I’ll recommend extra practice (either in a paper sheet or white board) per each lesson to reinforce what your kids have learned.

Am using these workbooks with my Kindergarten twins.They're able to read the directions any comprehend 90% of them but some are not clear and would benefit from simplification. Bottom line, I'd buy it again and find it worthwhile. would benefit from simplification. The material isn't very challenging but helps keep their skills sharp. I can't be happier with ALL KUMON 1st grade books. I work with my 6.5 year old son as a supplement to his school work. He actually enjoys his homework. Each lesson gently prepares him for the next milestone. I like the way the books are structured.

The basic layout is the student reads a passage and answers question for comprehension. The main focus is sequencing and vocabulary. It's ideal for honing those first grade reading skills.

Most of my students read above grade-level. The Kumon workbooks help improve comprehension & vocabulary.

My daughter has progressed very well using this as part of her home-school curriculum. We are very glad that Kumon has these workbooks available for us to use. They are a great resource for us. We also use Kumon Word Problems and Geometry & Measurement for math and recommend it as well.

I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter who is in the first grade. She works very independently using this book. The instrustions are kids friendly, so they don't need to much help from us parents. This book reinforces some of the stuff your child already knows and builds on them , while pushing your child forward in the right direction. My daughter has learn so much from using this book. I just love love this book because it does what it supposed to do which is help my child read.This book consists of these exercises: Short vowels, long vowels ,Consonant Combinations, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. Your child will be matching pictures to the correct words, completing rhyming phrases, connecting words to the correct picture, writing words with the same ending and circling words that matches the picture. The reading consist of several short passages, which your child will read and then answer several questions about what they just read. Overall this is a great book for kids to work on their own and then use the answer sheet to the back of the book to correct their own mistakes. I highly recommend this book to home schoolers or to reinforced what child is learning in school.

Marilyn D. McShane Professor of Criminal Justice, University of Houston Downtown Ph.D. (1985) Sam Houston State University Specialization: Institutional and community corrections, child abuse, criminal justice system management, and criminological theory. Dr. McShane has taught at the graduate and undergraduate level and has served on a number of national criminal justice professional organization boards. She often serves as a reviewer for the National Institute for Justice. At Cal State, San Bernardino (tenured professor) she received the faculty Professional Development Award in 1994 and she was Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice (tenured professor) at Northern Arizona University. At Prairie View A&M, she was the senior founding professor of the Juvenile Justice Doctoral Program. Her current appointment is at the University of Houston Downtown as an endowed professor and institute director. Dr. McShane Professor McShane has a consistent record of publication and grantsmanship (more than 50 books and articles, and directed several grants). Her editorial work includes a series of dissertations with LFB Scholarly Publishing and a scholarly monograph series with Greenwood / Praeger. She co-edited the award-winning "Encyclopedia of American Prisons "and is currently co-editing the" Encyclopedia of Juvenile Justice". This book does not cover the topics in adequate detail for exam reference. The book's Objective Review questions ask things that are not even covered in the book. This series is a money grab from MS Press.You are better off reading TechNet pages for Exchange 2013/Online. For exam preparation, I would suggest the Mastering Exchange Server 2013 book from Sybex.

Written for people who don't really have a lot of Exchange background, but, says it is written for it. Read about half of it before giving up on gaining anything useful, and went to the Inside-Out series, which gives information in a more X's and Y's format, vs here where it's almost as if someone was asked to talk about Exchange 2013. I tried to absorb something from this book to help me pass the 70-341, but, I don't think it really gave me anything I didn't already know.

I don't know how I missed it before but suspected I'd read it almost fifty years ago when it was first published. I hadn't. It reminded me of why I enjoyed Tony Hillerman. "The Blessing Way" had more of the culture of the Navajo than any Hillerman book I'd read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was a little rough, it was the first of the Navajo series and I believe the first book he'd had published. The writing was, in my opinion, excellent.Later books became more focused on relationships but this one was a wonderful visit with the Navajo on their reservation.I'll probably read it again.

I bought this book for a policeman of the Navajo Nation after being stopped and cited for exceeding the posted speed limit. As part of the process I enquired if the officer had ever read or heard of the Hillerman books about Lt Leaphorn or Officer Jim Chee,. They are fictional officers of the Navajo Nation police force. He had not. I, however, have read everyone in the series and they are among my all time favorite books. The Blessing Way is the first in this series and I felt the officer might like a read by an author known and celebrated as a mystery writer who set plot within a realistic framework of life in the desert of Arizona and New Mexico that is the Navajo Nation. I mailed the book to the office at his last know station. I know the book arrived. I have no idea if he has read it or not. YOU should buy and read it if you like a good police mystery. An added benefit is the reader will catch a glimpse into the Navajo culture. Plus, it is fun to visit some of the beautiful desert places Hillerman mentioned in the books.

I am reading the Leaphorn Chee books in order.....I always loved the Southwest, since my first trip to and through in 1990. I decided after 25 plus years and reading two of Hillerman's books, to go back to the beginning and read them all. I enjoyed this book mostly. The setting, the descriptions of the landscape and people and their activities kept my attention. I am remembering that it was 1970 that this was published, because the cigarettes and the lack of dimension of the women characters, especially the white women, almost had me laughing out loud. The intricate details of Navajo ways were hard to keep separate and distinct, and did not necessarily move the plot along. I did however, enjoy reading the book, and will keep going to the next one in line.

No reflection on this celebrated writer, it's my fault for "picking something different to read." I saw a couple of Leaphorn/Chee stories done on PBS and loved them. But reading this book was a different matter. I got bogged down and finally just ground to a halt by all the Indian ceremony and mysticism. I read only about 30% of the book, so this is only 70% of a review, I guess.

Despite the uninspired writing style, time and again Hillerman manages to throw us off his path of mysterious twists and turns. To be truthful, by the time the rather implausible denouement dragged itself around, I was too fatigued to care much.As always, his knowledge of Navajo ways gives rise to some fascinating reading.

This is the first of Hillerman's Leaphorn series, and it's a good introduction to what to expect in the following books. I hadn't read this in a number of years so could appreciate how the writing and plots improve over the series. Here you'll meet Joe Leaphorn, begin to learn your way around the Navajo Nation, see how Tribal police interact with their constituency and other agencies, pick up some Navajo words and enjoy a good mystery. I recommend the entire series.

Amazing book and writer. It’s a shame such talent is no longer with us. When he writes about the reservations in northern Arizona, I can assure you it’s like being there. I grew up visiting family on the res and know from experience there’s so much beauty along with natural danger. Fortunately, his daughter, Anne is also a wonderful writer. If you haven’t read his books, please do. You won’t be disappointed.

The victim is a young Navajo with a bad record, but that doesn't make Leaphorn any less eager to catch his killer.This is an adventure story, as much as a murder mystery. The adventure is associated with an anthropologist friend of Joe's, Bergen McGee, whose research into Navajo witchcraft draws him into the heart of the mystery and endangers his life. To add spice, there's a woman in the adventure, and a possibility of romance.Leaphorn interviews a number of clan members in the course of his investigation, and his respectful, roundabout, patient style, which honors the Old Ways, is a pleasure to watch. Also delightful are the lovely Navajo songs and chants quoted in the book.I'm new to this series and looking forward to the books to come. This first book has me hooked.
